A smouldering fuse box blew out power at a Martinborough wine bar for three and a half hours on Saturday. Fire and emergency [Fenz] responded to the small electrical fire outside Mesita Wine Bar on Ohio St shortly after 4.30pm. A Fenz spokesperson said the fire crew extinguished the smouldering fuse box. Powerco dispatched a field crew who said it was a burnt-out fuse which sparked when it blew. Both the fuse and its holder were replaced. The outage affected one customer, who was reconnected just before 8pm.

The SH2 roadworks between Waingawa and Clareville will be closed to southbound traffic tonight for the second night in a row, while Waka Kotahi NZTA contractors install a wire median barrier. The southbound lane will close at 7pm. A diversion through Cornwall Rd and Hughes Line will be in place until 6am, Tuesday. Southbound traffic will be able to access Norfolk Rd. SH2 will be open to northbound traffic towards Masterton.

MetService has put Wellington on a strong wind watch today as far north as the Upper Hutt side of SH2 Remutaka Hill Rd. The forecast is for southerly winds, which are at risk of approaching severe gale in exposed places. MetService said the strong wind watch starts at 9am today and will extend until 9pm.

Strong winds brought down some power lines backing onto Carterton’s Carrington Park on Saturday . Fire and emergency [Fenz] attended the scene shortly after 5pm and made it safe until Powerco arrived. Powerco said the loose line’s fuse was removed and is not live. The line and pole are council-owned and provide power for the park’s lights. In the meantime, joggers and dog walkers might wish to try a head torch.

South Wairarapa District Council said some residents were told by persons unknown that there was an e.coli issue in Martinborough’s drinking water. Wellington Water said test results on Saturday found no evidence of the bacteria in Featherston, Greytown, and Martinborough and the water remains safe to drink.
